MANAGER Eddie Howe has thrown down the gauntlet to recalled goalkeeper Shwan Jalal by urging him to take his chance.
Howe drafted in Jalal at the expense of David James for Cherries’ 2-1 victory over Hartlepool on Tuesday night.
The 29-year-old had not started a League One match since being replaced by former England star James in September.
Cherries boss Howe is now calling on Jalal to stake his claim by building on his performance at Hartlepool.
Howe told the Daily Echo: “Distribution-wise, he was very good with his feet, his choice of kicking and where he kicked, and he made a couple of valuable saves for us.
“I don’t think we will see him at his very best until he gets a run but I was pleased with him on Tuesday.”
Asked if he planned to give Jalal that run in the team, Howe replied: “We will wait and see. It is in his hands.
“He played on Tuesday, we won and he performed well. Now, it is in his hands and, hopefully, he can take his chance.”
