GREENFIELDS under-13s bowed out of the Hampshire Cup in an 11-goal thriller at Slades Farm.

The 2011 county cup winners lost the quarter-final 6-5 against Portsmouth-based Meon Milton.

Greenfields were always playing catch-up, falling behind on no fewer than four occasions, before Meon grabbed the winner three minutes from time.

Sammy Tourh (2), Harrison Chamberlain, Josh Kirkham and substitute Jordan Beeke, with a superb long-range volley, all scored equalisers for the hosts.

Each time Meon took the lead, Greenfields levelled the scores within five minutes in a topsy-turvy match.

“The game was a great cup tie,” said Greenfields boss Phil Griffin. “Having come in a goal down at half-time, playing against the big slope, we were confident of getting the win.

“Unfortunately Meon got the next goal and, although we pulled it back we couldn’t get a lead. If we had, I think we would have nicked it.

“Both sides put on a fantastic show with lots of skill and determination, but it just wasn’t our day. Every one of the Greenfields boys can be proud of their performance and we wish Meon all the best in their semi-final,” added Griffin.

Greenfields: Billy Griffin, Thomas Evans, Will Stone, Isy Beaglehole, Harry Salter (captain), Jack Farrier-Ledden, Tiz Sampson, Harrison Chamberlain, Josh Kirkham, Sammy Tourh, Jason Turner. Subs: Jordan Monks, Jordan Beeke, Tom Rose.

  •  Greenfields under-14s, meanwhile, have progressed to the last four of the Hampshire Cup for the first time.

Owen Bush netted the only goal of the game in their 1-0 win over Basingstoke Town Elite at King George V Playing Fields to book a semi-final date with Tyro League strugglers BTC Southampton Nimrod.
