WIMBORNE colts secured their place in the Dorset and Wiltshire Under-18s Cup semi-finals with a 39-15 win over Dorchester at Swanage and Wareham’s ground.
Jack Mason opened the scoring for the young All Blacks, with Jono Edwards doubling their advantage.
Toby Lawrence converted Edwards’s try to establish a commanding 12-0 lead.
But Dorchester seized the initiative and reduced the deficit to just two points with a converted try and a penalty kick.
The visitors’ revival spurred Wimborne into action with Edwards scoring his second try before Dorchester scored again just before interval.
Leading 17-15 at the break, Wimborne began the second half brightly with further tries from full-back Jacob Squire and Mason who shrugged off three opponents to land his second try.
With 10 minutes remaining, Squire secured his double, while Ollie Bourton completed Wimborne’s try-scoring under the posts.
Bourton’s effort was duly converted by Lawrence as Wimborne secured their last-four berth with a 39-15 scoreline.
All other quarter-final matches were postponed and will played on Sunday.
