BOSS Tom Killick insisted results were the only important factor for title chasing Poole Town after they had won a dour clash against basement boys Winchester City tonight.

The Dolphins extended to four points their lead at the top of Southern League Division One South & West thanks to goals in three second-half minutes from Michael Charles and Carl Preston.

The Tatnam outfit were off colour before the break but controlled the match following the opener just before the hour mark. Warren Byerley and Steve Devlin both struck the woodwork late on.

However, despite an at times laboured display, Killick was just happy to secure all three points.

The Dolphins chief told the Daily Echo: “We were a bit flat in the first half but that happens when you have had so many matches off.

“It was one of those games where you are on a hiding to nothing from the start. They were a young side, struggling in the league and turned up without shirts to play in. There was an air about the place, people were wondering how many we would score.

“Winchester deserve a lot of credit too. James Taylor (Winchester manager) has clearly instilled his passion for the game in his players and, even once we had scored, they were still very enthusiastic.

“I’m not too interested in performances at this stage of the season. If it is not beautiful, it is not beautiful. We are just ticking off the games and it is an endurance test from here.

“Every time we play, our rivals are looking for our result hoping we have dropped points. We need to be relentless like we were in the Wessex League and demoralise those teams when they have seen we have won.”
