BOSS Frank Gray expressed his delight at Bashley’s overall performance after watching his men finally end their lengthy winless run on the road.

Bash claimed their first away victory in 10 league games by beating Bedworth United 3-0 to halt a poor spell which stretched back to November 17.

The much-needed win over their relegation rivals came courtesy of a 44th-minute penalty from Mark Gamble and second-half efforts from Rob Gradwell and James Stokoe.

Gray’s team gave their Southern Premier survival hopes a major boost in the process as they edged eight points clear of second-bottom Bedworth.

The Bashley manager told the Daily Echo: “It was an important game against a team at the bottom.

“We needed to make the gap between us and them a bit wider.

“I thought we looked quite strong defensively.

“Young Ryan Case came in from AFC Bournemouth and did a good job, as did the rest of the back four.

“We also looked a threat going forward. Rob Gradwell played very well and his hold-up play was first class.”

The New Foresters will be aiming to build on the victory when they host Weymouth at the Recreation Ground this afternoon (3pm).

Bash: Moore, Case, Oliver, Finlay, Middleton, Richardson, Casey, Gradwell (Moth, 88), Stokoe, Gamble (Hill, 79), Knight (Jenkinson, 86). Unused subs: Strickland, Cooper.

  • Steve Cuss’s second-half substitutions inspired Wimborne Town to a 1-0 victory at Cinderford in Division One South & West.

The Magpies boss introduced Matt Kemble and Tom Jeffes in the closing stages and the attacking duo combined to produce the winning goal.

Jeffes provided the assist for Kemble to fire home on the turn in the 74th minute and boss Cuss felt his men had deserved the three points.

He told the Daily Echo: “I thought we were full value for the win and I would have been disappointed if we had not got the goal.

“We dominated from the start until the moment we scored. It was only after we had scored that they put any pressure on us.”

Jeffes is set to make his final appearance for Wimborne when Magpies host Winchester City at Cuthbury today (3pm).

The former AFC Bournemouth employee has landed a new job as commercial manager of Leyton Orient, meaning he will no longer be available for Magpies matches.

Magpies: Harvell, Arnold, Peprah-Annan, Costello, Brian, Blake, Sainsbury, Webb, Cole (Hubbard, 60), Davidson (Kemble, 60), Smith (Jeffes, 70). Unused subs: Maybury, Ackerman (g/k).
