A DORSET goalkeeper coaching school – run jointly by former Cherries star Neil Moss – is celebrating a memorable hat-trick of promotions.

Coaches at Between the Sticks, which is based at Canford Arena, have been pivotal in this season’s successes for Cherries, Yeovil and Poole Town.

Moss played his part behind the scenes in helping Cherries secure a place in the Championship before his close pal Gareth Stewart repeated the feat yesterday.

Ex-Cherries stopper Stewart, who lives in Ferndown and is a senior coach at Between the Sticks, was on the bench for Yeovil’s League One play-off final victory over Brentford.

Stewart, who tutors Yeovil’s goalkeepers, saw number one Marek Stech claim the man-of-the-match award following their 2-1 win at Wembley.

Moss’s business partner Robbie Yates is goalkeeper coach at Poole Town who also won promotion after romping to the Southern League Division One South & West title.

And just for good measure, Poole glovesman Nick Hutchings, another senior coach at Between the Sticks, was last week named national non-league goalkeeper of the year.

Moss told the Daily Echo: “It has been a fantastic season for Between the Sticks and Yeovil’s win in the play-off final put the finishing touches to it.

“I was delighted for Gareth. He is a really good coach and he works very hard. It was a bit of a struggle for him after he left Bournemouth but he has found himself a spiritual home at Yeovil. They really like him there and Marek Stech is an excellent goalkeeper. Gareth has improved him no end and he would have been made up for him to win man of the match.

“Our scouts have seen a lot of Yeovil this season and I always ask how the keepers have done. The reports on Marek were that he improved week on week and that is down to the hard work Gareth has put in with him.

“I was also delighted for James Hayter because, like Gareth, he is a gentleman. With Yeovil being our closest club, I was rooting for them.”

Moss divides his time between working at Dean Court and helping run Between the Sticks, which caters for goalkeepers aged from seven upwards. The school also coaches the Cherries academy, the Dorset centre of excellence and the AFC Bournemouth ability counts team.

“We train on the new 3G pitch at Canford Arena which is probably the best surface for keepers because it is soft and we never have to cancel,” said Moss. “We are privileged to have such a great team of coaches and first-class facilities as well.”

Yates and Hutchings were among the Wembley crowd to see Stewart and Stech help Yeovil join Cherries in the Championship.
