ONE of Dorset’s up-and-coming juniors has enjoyed a great deal of competition success recently.
St Katharine’s School’s Lily Stent is a member of the Bournemouth Performance Centre (BPC) and is coached by Liam Cordery.
The 11-year-old emerged triumphant from three open nationals with a fine total of seven medals.
Lily’s first success was in the Torbay Open in Devon in April where she took the gold singles medal in the under-13 event and silver in the girls’ doubles with her partner Lucy Cooper from Devon.
Her second success was in the Dorset Under-12 Open tournament held at Harewood College where she took the gold medal in the girls’ singles and gold in the girls’ doubles – again alongside Lucy Cooper.
She then travelled to Abingdon in Oxfordshire for the Oxon Under-12 Open tournament.
Lily managed to overcome some very tough higher-ranked opponents to take the singles gold.
She also sealed girls’ doubles gold – this time with Chloe Du – and a silver in the mixed doubles with BPC team-mate Ben Jarvis.
Lily is currently ranked in the top-10 in her age group in England and is likely to move up a few places following her recent successes.
She is now looking forward to next season.
Lily again plans to compete on the under-13s gold level tournament circuit during the new campaign.
