BIG-hitting Broadstone batsman Steve Trembath produced a sensational innings to lead his team to a crushing nine-wicket victory over Stalbridge in the Dorset Saturday League.

Trembath’s brutal effort lit up the Premier Division clash at the Delph as he smashed a remarkable unbeaten 66 – from just 21 deliveries.

The Broadstone star’s half-century came in a blistering 19 balls, while his final 40 runs required only an incredible nine deliveries.

Trembath’s fine performance included no fewer than five sixes and seven fours. To put his display into some sort of context, Sanath Jayasuriya’s one-day international record fastest 50 took 17 balls.

Earlier, Luke Carter (40) had hit eight fours and a six, but his exit did not come close to halting the hosts’ momentum as Pete Russell (24*) and Trembath (66*) took centre stage in emphatic fashion.

Joe Manley (3-28) and Carlyle Collins (3-16) had helped to set the comfortable target for Broadstone as they played a major role in skittling Stalbridge for 146 (Andy Sullivan 66). Broadstone reached the required total in the 16th over.

  • Wimborne & Colehill slipped up against fellow frontrunners Ferndown Wayfarers who completed a two-wicket victory in a tight match at The Leaze.

David Guest (30) top-scored for Wimborne, while Max Collins boosted the hosts’ total 25 not out, which included four boundaries.

Opener George Bartlett (24) was eventually bowled by Neil Sexton (3-34)  after 80 balls with Ferndown’s Eric Linge (2-15) also keeping down Wimborne’s run-rate with five maidens. The hosts were all out for 166.

Linge (20), Leigh Dunham (39) and Matthew Rose (29) got Ferndown to 132 for four before they edged over the winning line, despite the best efforts of Wimborne duo Ashley Collison (3-10) and Mike Kitson (3-37).

  • Winton became Weymouth’s first victims of the season as they fell to a two-wicket defeat.

John Duke (76) and Dan Baguley (43) both batted well, but Winton lost wickets at regular intervals with Weymouth’s Dave Trotter (2-45) leading the way alongside skipper Matt Lawes (2-32).

Experienced Laurie Whyte (3-38) and Harry Tucker (3-11) then turned the screw to eventually dimiss Winton for 167. Paul Payne (47) and Kieron Womble (39) put Weymouth on course for victory with a third-wicket stand of 68.

  • Leaders Parley made it five wins from five with a 61-run victory at Poole Town – thanks largely to a 142-run partnership between Tom Jacques (87) and captain Roshan Embalagama (63). Parley set a strong total of 262 for seven before opener Brewster Surridge (54) failed to save Poole.
