CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has confirmed that Burnley have rejected a bid from Cherries for ex-Dean Court frontman Danny Ings.
Mitchell revealed that Cherries had tabled a written offer in an attempt to bring Ings back to the club where he began his professional career.
But the Cherries chief, who declined to reveal the details of the bid, told the Daily Echo that the Clarets had turned down the approach from their new Championship rivals.
Mitchell was speaking after reports had emerged in Lancashire this morning about Cherries’ attempted swoop for the 21-year-old striker.
Ings, a product of the Cherries youth system, joined the Clarets in August 2011 when then Burnley boss Eddie Howe took him to Turf Moor.
And Howe, having returned to Cherries last season, now appears keen to reunite with the highly-rated forward as he plans for life in the second tier.
But Burnley, who bought Ings in a deal believed to be rising to £1million, rebuffed the approach, although the Clarets are said to be braced for a fresh bid.
Ings, who netted seven goals in 28 Cherries appearances, has scored six times in 25 starts and 23 substitute appearances during an injury-hit spell with the Clarets.
Prior to joining Burnley, Ings was heavily linked with a number of high-profile clubs including Liverpool and Newcastle United, while Cherries also rejected offers from Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, Mitchell reported that Cherries had received no bids for any members of Howe’s current squad. Matt Tubbs has been linked with Rotherham, Oxford United and Crawley Town, while Shwan Jalal is also believed to be attracting interest.
