BOURNEMOUTH golfing star Georgia Hall has added another impressive achievement to her CV – selection for the PING Junior Solheim Cup.
The 17-year-old amateur sensation from Wallisdown has been picked as part of a strong European team to take on America in Denver, Colorado, between August 13-14.
Europe have called on four players ranked in the top-20 of the women’s world amateur rankings. As number seven, Hall is the leading-ranked competitor in the European line-up and will be aiming to continue her fine form this season.
Hall, who won last year’s British Girls’ Championship, hit the headlines by triumphing in the British Women’s Amateur Championship earlier this summer.
A member at both Remedy Oak and Parkstone, Hall’s performances have benefited from her decision to leave Oakmead College to focus on her golf career.
Hall’s impressive results helped her earn automatic qualification for a place in the European team.
The PING Junior Solheim Cup was first played in 2002 and the most recent clash, held in Ireland in 2011, resulted in a tie. It always takes place immediately ahead of the Solheim Cup, which will be contested between August 16-18.
Meanwhile, Hall and fellow Dorset ace Hayley Davis produced strong performances before narrowly missing out on a medal at the European Ladies’ Team Championship at Fulford in York.
England’s hopes of claiming the top prize were dashed by Spain who won their semi-final clash 4.5-2.5. That came despite Hall and Ferndown’s Davis defeating foursomes opponents Camilla Hedberg and Noemi Jimimez two up, with Davis also beating Marta Sanz by one hole to become England’s only singles winner.
England then failed to claim a consolation bronze when they suffered a 4-3 loss to play-off rivals Finland.
Hall and Davis lost their morning foursomes clash before bouncing back to win their singles matches, the pair picking up two of England’s three points.
In the strokeplay, England finished tied sixth alongside France, with Denmark running away with first place, 31 shots ahead of second-placed Spain. Hall and Davis both carded four over par two-round totals of 148.
