DOM Hand’s impressive 121 helped Dorset under-17s to an innings win over Wiltshire in an ECB county championship match at Trowbridge.

Having lost the toss, the visitors fielded first and a wicket for James Williams in the second over set the scene as keeper Matt Swindlehurst held on to an edge.

After a stand of 41 for the next wicket, Wiltshire struggled and they were all out for 165 polished off by James Vitali (three for 36). Spinner Sean Mulley returned three for 39 and Williams bagged two. Dorset reached 91 for three overnight.

The following day saw huge determination from Hand, Todd Stephens (44) and Williams (31) and, with a brutal 20 not out from Swindlehurst, Dorset declared on 321 for seven.

There was some stubborn resistance from Wiltshire second time around as Dorset tried eight bowlers with six taking the wickets. The hosts finished on 169 for seven which meant an innings win and 21 points for Dorset.

  •  Sam Beer stole the show for Dorset under-12s in their 80-run victory over Gwent at Canford School.

Beer (32), Scott Currie (28) and Ethan Dowler (27) made the biggest contributions as Dorset put on 148 for eight in their alloted 40 overs.

Beer then took two wickets for four runs in seven overs as the visitors were reduced to 68 for six.

  •  Losing the toss and facing the prospect of a long afternoon fielding in the heat was not the desired start but excellent bowling spells and sharp fielding by Dorset under-11s restricted Gwent to 108 all out from 26 overs at Canford School.

Champagne moment of the innings was Jacob Browning’s 5 for 33 which included a double wicket maiden in his fourth over. Harrison Neary (2 for 21) and Tao White (2 for 17) were also in fine form.

Tight bowling and excellent work in the field from the Gwent team meant the Dorset boys had to be disciplined and patient as they just managed to hit the run rate at the end of each over.

Thomas Saunders hit a top score of 39 in an 11-over spell with Jacob Gordon that saw 58 runs credited to the home side, by far the highest partnership of the day. The team ended with a score of 109 for five in the 31st over to seal the win.
