DORSET’S Georgia Hall is relishing the prospect of rubbing shoulders with two Major winners when she tees-off in the Ricoh Women’s British Open today.
The 17-year-old Remedy Oak member (pictured below) earned exemption to the prestigious event after winning the British Amateur Championship last month.
And in her first two rounds on the famous Old Course, Hall will play alongside four-time Major winner Laura Davies and South Korea’s So Yeon Ryu, the 2011 US Open champion.
Davies, 49, has 84 professional career wins to her name and, in 1996, the year Hall was born, she won two Majors – the LPGA Championship and the du Maurier Classic – and topped the European Tour order of merit.
Hall flew to Scotland on Sunday to start preparing for the Open, just hours after returning from Finland where she had been competing in the International European Ladies’ Amateur Championship.
Her father Wayne, who will caddy for her at St Andrew’s, told the Daily Echo: “Georgia was chuffed to bits with the draw. There are a lot of players here she doesn’t know so playing with Laura Davies and So Yeon Ryu will be a fantastic experience.
“She has never played with Laura, who is one of England’s greatest players, and So Yeon Ryu is one of the top 10 players in the world. Georgia has been pleased with how her practice has gone and is really looking forward to it.”
Bournemouth-born Hall, who lives in Wallisdown, had a practice round with Jessica Korda and Holly Clyburn on Monday before continuing her preparation alongside Karen Stupples yesterday.
