A delicious double from Dominic Allen fired Hamworthy United to a 3-2 success over Totton & Eling in Saturday’s Wessex Premier opener.
Adam Lowther’s penalty put the visitors in front on 16 minutes but Allen’s blast from the edge of the area was quickly followed by Mark Claremont’s lob as the pendulum swung in the Hammers’ favour.
Lowther’s second levelled matters before the break but Allen raced onto Sam Lanahan’s throughball and coolly slotted home 45 seconds after the interval to secure Simon Browne’s first win on the opening day since taking charge at the County Ground.
Hammers: Knights, Head, Holland, Biles, Saunders, Sturgess, Penny (Chudy, 86), Lanahan, Pekun, Allen, Claremont. Unused subs: Stacey, Shovelton, Bassiriki.
- Boss Ken Vaughan was left frustrated with Zouaoui Lamalli’s red card in Bournemouth Poppies’ 4-1 Wessex League Cup success at Ringwood Town.
Poppies were four goals to the good through Aaron Corby, Martin Warren (2) and Connor Phillips when Lamalli was dismissed for foul and abusive language.
Vaughan said: “It was totally frustrating and spoiled a good night.
“He’s just coming back to fitness after an operation on both knees and he couldn’t quite get to where he wanted to be, but he has to hold his hands up because you can’t lose your rag like that.”
Poppies: Lillington, Ayrton, Jackson, Crow, Bartlett, Saadi (Burgis, 61), Robinson (Cooper, 64), Corby, Warren, Lamalli, Phillips (Andrews, 64). Unused subs: Clarke, Pearce.
- Michael Cuffie’s Christchurch fought back from a goal down to win 4-2 at Fawley in the League Cup second round.
Substitute Jack Hoey’s strike eight minutes from the end sent the tie to extra time before Gareth Barnes’s double and Mark Smith’s penalty won the match.
Elsewhere in the League Cup, Verwood crashed out following a 2-0 defeat to Cowes Sports while New Milton lost to 2-1 to Andover Town.
Priory: Frampton, Doe (Saul, 75), Bernard, Speers, Legg, Blackburn (Walker, 98) Smith, Meyer (Hoey, 55), Barnes, Purdy, Burden. Unused subs: Frewin, Jacobs.
