CHERRIES striker Wes Thomas is a transfer target for Swindon Town, according to reports in Wiltshire.

The nomadic frontman last month stressed his desire for a fresh start at Dean Court after spending much of last season out on loan.

Manager Eddie Howe gave Thomas his chance against Charlton on Saturday before also selecting him to face Portsmouth in the League Cup.

The 26-year-old, handed an opportunity with Brett Pitman sidelined by injury, earned praise for his hard-working performances in those two matches.

However, as revealed by the Swindon Advertiser, the Robins are understood to be taking a keen interest in Thomas.

Boss Howe, who does not comment on transfer speculation, has made no secret of his attempts to bolster his striking department.

But he has been pleased by Thomas’s contribution to Cherries’ impressive start to the season. Speaking before the Swindon rumours emerged and after the win over Portsmouth last night, Howe told the Daily Echo: “I think Wes has done well. The key component to Wes’s game at the moment is working incredibly hard for the team and showing that he is a real team player.

“He was up front on his own against Portsmouth and it is always a difficult ask, but he continually closed down, ran channels and did the things we needed him to do.

“I think the only thing missing in Wes’s game at the moment is a goal but I am sure they will come if he continues to work as hard as he is.”
