VASTLY-experienced Cherries defender Ian Harte is relishing life at Dean Court and insists he is hungrier than ever to taste success.
The left-back is arguably the most seasoned campaigner in the Cherries squad following an illustrious career in the Premier League and at international level.
Harte, who signed a one-year deal after joining Cherries on a free transfer in June, made his name with Leeds United and has earned 63 Republic of Ireland caps.
The 35-year-old defender made 16 appearances in the top flight last season after featuring in former club Reading’s Championship promotion triumph in 2012.
But despite his previous achievements, Harte says he retains a strong desire to thrive with Cherries after linking up with Eddie Howe’s men.
And after making his competitive debut against Portsmouth in the midweek League Cup win, Harte is targeting a memorable campaign.
Asked if he was as hungry as he was 10 years ago, Harte told the Daily Echo: “I am probably hungrier now because I know that in the not so distant future, it is going to come to an end.
“I have played in some fantastic teams and it is only just over a year ago that I won my first medal.
“I want to push on and do the best I can for Bournemouth and who knows where it can take us.”
Harte, who is understood to have received offers from numerous Championship clubs during pre-season, faces stern competition for Cherries’ left-back berth from Charlie Daniels.
The ex-Carlisle star, who turns 36 later this month, believes Cherries’ squad boasts “strength in depth” and he is keen to lend his experience whether on or off the field.
Harte said: “I have had a decent enough career but I am not finished yet and I am still hungry to push on and do as well as I can.
“If the younger lads need to talk to me about anything, I am always there to try to help them.
“Likewise, if I am not involved, I can try to talk to certain players to try to help them get on with the game.”
Harte continued: “You have to be a team player. Of course, everybody wants to play and be among those first 11 names on the team-sheet.
“It is not always going to happen so you have to be patient and supportive of your team-mates as well.
“We have got a great bunch in the dressing room and we are all pulling in the same direction. We are trying to get up the table and see where it can takes us.”
Discussing his time with Cherries so far, Harte added: “It has been first class since I came in. I have settled in and it is nice to get the ball down the play. It is an attractive style of football and everybody is really enjoying it.”
Harte is expected to be named in the Cherries squad for today’s Championship trip to Watford (3pm).
