EX-POOLE ace Maciej Janowski vowed to get the beers in after Poland qualified for the Speedway World Cup final last night.

The Poles, skippered by Janowski, saw off a late surge by event one hosts Denmark to secure their passage by three points.

An exclusion for an early fall in heat 16 was a factor in the Grand Prix star posting just seven points from five rides, although he battled back to second in his final outing to keep Poland four in front with three races left.

But when Bartosz Zmarzlik was excluded for using the top of his arm to knock King's Lynn's Niels Kristian-Iversen off balance, the gap was reduced to one before Piotr Pawlicki and Patryk Dudek intervened.

Interviewed on BT Sport after the meeting, Janowski said: “I need to buy them some cold beer for what they have done.

“I have to say thank you to the boys because my position was not so good. They did amazing work.”

Another former Pirate, Vaclav Milik, carried the fight for the Czech Republic with 12 of their 19 points but they finished well behind Poland (39), Denmark (36) and Russia (32).

On Tuesday, Chris Holder’s Australia face hosts Sweden, USA and Germany in event two in Vastervik.
