PIRATES rider Steve Boxall claims there will be no end of season feel about his performance in Poole's Craven Shield clash with Lakeside and Peterborough tonight.

The 20-year-old comes into the six-man side, due to the absence of Bjarne Pedersen and Jason Crump, who are competing in tomorrow's German Grand Prix.

Boxall is determined to extend Pirates' season and seal his place in the side for the final against Coventry and Swindon.

He said: "I'm glad Poole are giving me another chance to have a go. I'm grateful for the experience, so I'd love to win through and ride for them in the final.

"This may be the Shield but no-one turns up, if they want to get on in the sport, and treats it like a Mickey Mouse event."

With Shield rivals Peterborough failing to stage their home meeting, each team's aggregate score will be divided by the number of meetings they have raced to determine the finalists.

This could mean that should tonight's event get rained-off, Pirates, who scored 52 points in the Wimborne Road leg, would go through on the strength of just one meeting.

Boxall is chasing trophies on two fronts, as his Premier League side Rye House are set to tackle Sheffield in the division's play-off final.

The Canterbury-born racer has already claimed silverware with the Rockets, having won the Premier League title and trophy competition there in 2005.

"Winning trophies in both divisions would be absolutely great and I'm going to give my all to make it happen," added Boxall.

Boxall joins Belle Vue star Simon Stead in replacing Pedersen and Crump at Purfleet.

Meanwhile, Jason Doyle is ruled out of the contest after separating his shoulder while guesting for Somerset at Stoke on Saturday.

He will be replaced by former Pirates and current Mildenhall star Tomas Suchanek.
