WARREN Feeney struck twice to leave Cherries stranded at the foot of the table and then backed his former club to avoid the dreaded drop.
The on-loan Cardiff striker was the villain of the piece as Swansea claimed pole position in League One with a flattering 4-1 win at Dean Court yesterday.
Ulsterman Feeney, whose every touch was booed by a section of home fans, had the last laugh when he netted twice in the final six minutes to seal victory.
His double - the first from the penalty spot - added to first-half goals from Ferrie Bodde and Dennis Lawrence as the visitors condemned Cherries to a fifth home league defeat in six.
The Northern Ireland international said: "It was a great result for us and although it is pleasing to come away from home and win 4-1, Bournemouth didn't deserve to lose by that margin.
"We didn't play well but we've got that mentality at the moment where we are always going to be hard to beat and that's how it turned out.
"I got a bit of stick from the home fans and fully expected it. But I answered them in the best way possible by sticking the ball in the net twice.
"I'm sure they've got enough about them to stay up and I thought their second-half performance was superb.
"I know it's obvious for everyone to see but they just need to start turning their chances into goals. They had a lot of possession and their fair share of chances, but didn't take them.
"They had a couple of wins on the bounce last week so hopefully they can return to winning ways at Millwall next Saturday and start climbing the table."
Feeney profited late on as Cherries piled forward in search of an equaliser after Lee Bradbury had netted a first-half spot kick to make it 2-1, his seventh goal of the season.
Cherries boss Kevin Bond said: "Until they got their third goal, we were always well in the game. I thought we were as good as them in the first half and created as many chances as they did.
"We had the lion's share of the play until they scored the third goal and Bradders (Bradbury) had a good opportunity to make it 2-2, which would have made it a different game.
"Overall, they will be as good a team as there is in the league this season and while the scoreline would suggest that they gave us a good hiding, I don't think that was the case."
