IT never rains but it pours for Bournemouth Dolphins - and if it doesn't pour, it catches fire.
The swimmers thought they had put three weeks of turmoil behind them when the club's B team headed for a Speedo League gala in Bristol on Saturday.
But after stopping at a service station in Wiltshire, they returned to the team coach to find a fire engine parked alongside.
"The driver had spotted smoke coming from the coach when we stopped and said he would investigate," said swimmer's mum Julie Littlefair.
"By the time we returned after our cuppa, the fire brigade were there and using their hose."
The Excelsior was not seriously damaged and, after posing for pictures with the Wiltshire fire crew, the team were able to resume their journey after a half-hour delay.
"The kids thought it was all very exciting but there was a worry about whether we would get to the pool on time," said Mrs Littlefair.
"We got there just as they were starting the warm-up so didn't miss any races.
"But I think the club has had enough drama recently. We don't want any more, thanks."
She added: "The funny thing was that before we set off from Bournemouth, the driver had been unusually particular in his instructions about fire exits and what to do in the event of a fire.
"He was so comprehensive that we actually commented on it."
At least one Dolphins wag saw another funny side of the drama.
He sent an email to the Echo headed "Dolphins coach on fire drama" - then began it: "No, not Graham!" - a reference to head coach Graham Bassi, whose dealings with parents and committee members have been at the centre of the recent turmoil.
