CHERRIES have agreed a fee with Luton Town to sign defender Jack Stacey.
The Daily Echo understands that the club had one bid rejected for the 23-year-old, but there has now been a breakthrough with an offer of around £4million believed to have been accepted.
Providing the right-back can agree personal terms and pass a medical, the club hope the deal can be completed ahead of Wednesday's trip to La Manga for their pre-season tour.
Stacey is set to become the club's second signing of the summer after the £13million arrival of Lloyd Kelly from Bristol City.
Stacey played a key role in the Hatters clinching promotion to the Championship by winning the League One title last season.
He featured in 50 games for Luton in all competitions in 2018-19, scoring four goals and providing eight assists in the third tier.
Stacey started for Luton today in their first pre-season friendly of the summer, setting up James Collins to score in a 3-1 win over Welwyn Garden City.
Quizzed about the future of his defender after the match, new Hatters boss Graeme Jones told Luton Today: "I think there is a lot of interest in him and obviously I've worked in the Premier League for seven years, I think I would be interested in him.
"As he's got technical ability, he's got the physicality in my opinion to play there, but it was great to see Jack in our team.
"Today he's a Luton Town player and I think in my new role I've realised you have to concentrate on today and worry about tomorrow later.
"Absolutely (I want him to stay). We'll have to wait and see."
Celtic were also reportedly interested in the right-back.
Stacey joined Luton from Reading in 2017, having come through the Royals academy since the age of eight.
The versatile ace spent much of his early career playing as a winger but has featured mainly in defence in recent years.
And his performances last season were rewarded with a host of awards. Stacey, who won the young player of the year gong in 2017-18, was named Luton player of the year and also picked up the 2018-19 Supporters' Trust and junior Hatters player of the season awards.
Before sealing a permanent switch to Luton, Stacey had time on loan at Barnet, Carlisle United and Exeter City in League Two.
