CHRISTER Warren said his Wimborne Town side would "keep knocking on the door" after Scott Joyce ensured Magpies punished Poole Town's midweek slip-up.

With Dolphins only drawing at Hamble on Tuesday, Warren's team did not fall into the same trap as they battled to a hard-fought 1-0 win over the same opposition.

Warren felt Hamble came in search of a point but his troops combined graft and creativity to earn victory and close the gap on Wessex Premier leaders Poole.

"It was a very difficult game and you can see why they haven't conceded many goals," the player-boss told the Daily Echo.

"They had no intention of going for a win, got everyone behind the ball and tried to hit us on the counter attack.

"It was hard to break them down but we had enough chances to make it more comfortable.

"We kept plugging away and got our rewards with 15 minutes to go."

Warren feels his side is well equipped, with the likes of Joyce and James Stokoe, to break defences down.

He said: "It's different for the lads. A lot of them aren't used to people just sitting there.

"But we've got enough quality to open teams up. If we didn't have the flair players it would be hard but a bit of individual brilliance can open people up.

"It's just a case of being brave enough to take the opportunity."

Warren has also been pleased with the work ethic in his side, meaning Magpies have kept a lot of clean sheets and haven't conceded many goals.

He said: "It's not just about the defence and goalkeeper, everyone from the centre forwards, midfield and back four are working very hard and digging so deep to help each other.

"Saturday's result was a massive three points."
