CAPTAIN Nathan Walker's 26th-minute header ensured Hamworthy United's trip to the Isle of Wight was an enjoyable one.
Walker, who produced a magnifiscent all round display in the centre of Hammers' defence, rose highest to head in Micky Hubbard's deep free kick.
Phil Simkin's side had a slow start to the game after having to rush through warm-up.
The Hammers suffered a slight delay on the ferry crossing and then were faced with a lengthy drive over to Brading, but they settled into the match well and were always in control after Walker's header.
The game could have been made safe had a sliding effort by the hard working Keith Middleton not slipped past the post with 13 minutes to go.
The visitors bravely held on with goalkeeper Martin Peters enjoying a comfortable evening having not been forced to make a save all night.
Hamworthy team boss Simkin said of the result: "I thought that with a good few first team players missing we did really well and played exceptionally well.
"I am absolutely delighted with the result."
Hamworthy United: Peters, R Middleton, Gilbert, Horlock, Walker, Dean, Legg, Hubbard, K Middleton, Byerley, Dovell.
Substitutes: Kittle for K Middleton (83), Moores for Byerley (57).
