CHRISTCHURCH windsurfer Emma Wilson is one of the first athletes to be selected to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Aged just 20, the Dorset star has achieved a string of impressive performances this year, including fourth in the RS:X fleet at the test event for the Olympics, Ready Steady Tokyo.
Wilson follows in her mother Penny Way's footsteps, who represented Great Britain at the 1992 and 1996 Games in windsurfing.
Having been named among the 12-strong sailing group for Team GB, Wilson said: "I'm really happy. It feels a bit surreal.
"It's a dream I've had since I was a kid. I was always in to sport in school. I tried to do as many sports as I possibly could and I saw Kelly Holmes win her gold medal on the TV and just thought 'I want to be like her'.
"I think my mum is especially proud of me. She is a part of it as well though. She, my dad, my brother, they are all part of this journey and help me so much.
"And now I have this relief that I can go to an Olympics after everyone's hard work."
