DAVE Sturgess and Andy Culliford grabbed a goal apiece as Poole Town gained a big psychological boost ahead of their FA Vase tie against Hamworthy later this month.
Sturgess hit the net with an impressive strike from 20 yards that took a slight deflection midway through the first period.
Then substitute Culliford was on target with a towering header late in the game as the Dolphins powered into the Dorset Senior Cup third round.
But Poole manager Tommy Killick said: "I don't really think this result will have an awful lot of bearing on the Vase tie at Hamworthy on November 17.
"I think this game was a little bit low key and the Vase game will be played in a much bigger atmosphere.
"We were quite pleased just to come through tonight because we had some players playing who haven't played in the first team before.
"So, overall, we were pleased with our performance."
Leon Lima and Sean Bowden made their debuts in midfield for Poole after recently joining the club, while defender Karl Yelland had only a couple of previous appearances under his belt.
Hamworthy manager Phil Simkin had no qualms with his side's defeat. However, he said: "It will be a different story at our place in the Vase.
"Fair play to Poole, they have a massive pitch, it is the maximum size permitted, and they use it very well.
"They are a very good side but we never really played tonight because we couldn't come to terms with the size of the surface.
"We were beaten by the better side. We had one or two chances, but it wasn't enough."
Lima and Bowden impressed Killick in Poole's midfield, while Yelland also gained plaudits for his performance at right back.
Killick went on to say: "We had several injuries following our 0-0 draw at Poppies on Saturday, and all three of them did very well."
