KEVIN Bond believes Reading's youngsters are ready-made to slot into League One life because of the way they are looked after at the Premier League club.

And the Cherries boss should know, because he now has four Royals in his squad, with left-back Scott Golbourne the latest player to pen a one-month loan deal.

Golbourne made his debut for the Dorset club against Leeds United on Tuesday, following in the footsteps of Reading colleagues Jem Karacan, Alex Pearce and James Henry.

The quartet have all made a positive impact in their time at Cherries so far, which owes much to the environment at Reading, according to Bond, who said the Berkshire club had been "extremely helpful in terms of letting us have players".

"I've seen their reserves play a number of times this season. They play a lot of games and the players are all match fit and up to speed," Bond told the Daily Echo.

"They come into our set-up and add energy levels, which I've always felt we needed.

"They all work hard, that's pretty evident in their reserve games.

"It's a good team for a club like us to take players from."

Bond, a former fullback himself, was pleased with his latest loan signing's display against the Yorkshire giants.

He said: "He looked comfortable on the ball and accomplished on the ball.

"He wasn't hurried in possession, he rarely gave it away and he played some nice little balls into space. It's important for fullbacks to be able to use the ball.

"Too often I hear people stick people at fullback because they'll do a job there - it's a specialist position."

Golbourne, like the other Reading youngsters, is relishing the opportunity to grasp some first-team football.

"I've come down here for first team games, it's always positive to get games at first team level," he said.

The 19-year-old has been limited to two appearances for Steve Coppell's side this term, mainly because the first choice in his position is England international Nicky Shorey.

Though Golbourne sees this as a positive and an opportunity to improve his game.

He said: "It's good to learn from him, the way he plays, but it's very difficult when it comes to breaking into the side.

"He's got quite a bit of experience and I can definitely learn from him."

The fact three of Golbourne's Reading team-mates were already playing for Cherries when he joined "made it easier" for him.

He added: "I've settled in quite well, it's a great bunch of lads. I've had no problems settling in at all."

Golbourne is in the squad for this afternoon's FA Cup clash at Barrow, as is Karacan.

But Reading do not want Henry and Pearce to get cup tied.
