TREVOR Parker stressed he "feels sorry" for Michael Green after the New Milton player was told by the Wessex League that he could not re-sign for Christchurch.
New Milton boss Parker also believes Green was "misdirected" into believing he could go back to Hurn Bridge so quickly after playing only one game for the Hampshire side earlier this season.
League rules stipulate a player can only have one transfer between Wessex clubs in a single campaign.
And Parker confirmed the league management committee had just made a decision that upheld the rule, meaning Green remains on New Milton's books.
Parker said: "After Mike said he'd made a mistake, I said to him if there is any way you can go back to Christchurch and the league allows it, I haven't got a problem, although you are more than welcome to stay here.' "That (being allowed to go back to Christchurch) didn't happen though and Mike has been watching football since then.
"It is a sorry state of affairs. I feel sorry for Mike because he has been advised wrongly and he is a young lad.
"They can be a bit gullible at times and I feel he has been misdirected by someone."
Parker added: "Mike can't play in the Wessex League for another club this season, but he can play in another league for another club.
"As long as another club approach us properly we will let him go.
"I would let him go to Christchurch but it has always been clear from day one that players are only allowed one transfer in this league in one season.
"It is not rocket science."
In a league bulletin to clubs, a spokesman wrote: "Last season there was a way in which players could return to their previous club after four weeks, but there is no such rule this season.
"The transfer rule is in place for obvious reasons, to stop players moving around when it suits them or clubs bolstering their sides for certain games and then moving them on."
On the playing front, New Milton had marginally looked the better side before Danny Turner cracked in Fareham's 35th-minute opener with a speculative 25-yarder.
Fareham, who received their Echo-sponsored Wessex club of the month award for October before the match, added second half strikes from Wayne Boud and Mark Foster to bag maximum points.
Parker said: "Well into the first half there was nothing between the sides and if we had scored at that stage it might have been us who went on to win 3-0.
"But they did and we can have no complaints. I was quite impressed with Fareham."
New Milton: Jones, Holt, K Chengadu, R Chengadu, Pidgley, Borthwick, Smith (Booker), Grace, Long (Sampays), Ewen, Kabir (Labba, ht). Unused subs: Molloy, Marks.
