BOURNEMOUTH coach David Dunn stressed their "outstanding" scrummaging display laid the platform for a convincing 37-3 triumph at St Ives.

Lions crushed the Cornish side by running in six tries as they climbed out of the South West Division One bottom two for the first time this season.

Chris Hughes (two), Scott Chislett, James Flynn, Sam Hardcastle and Chris Ulu all touched down for the Chapel Gaters, with Tim Gray adding two conversions and one penalty.

Dunn said: "The scrummaging performance by the eight forwards was outstanding and gave us a tremendous platform to work with.

"Chris, our Samoan hooker, was also in outstanding form and turned in an impressive display."

Dunn, whose side have won two successive games after losing their opening seven, added: "We were delighted to come away from such a long trip with a result like that.

"We prepared thoroughly for it and the players realised how important this game was.

"Again we got the start we required and confidence just grew and grew and grew. By the end of it was literally a demolition.

"We lost the toss and were asked to play downhill with the wind in the first half.

"But in a way that suited us because we got points on the board, although we squandered a number of chances near the end of the first half. We turned around 15-3 up which wasn't enough, but the second half performance was outstanding up the hill against the wind."

Dunn stressed he was not "worried about our current league position because we know we will pick up points and climb up the table.

"Other results at the weekend showed that other clubs (above us) are vulnerable.

"We've got a cup game at Newton Abbot this weekend then we are really looking forward to meeting Redingsenians at home in the league because we have a score to settle with them.

"They beat us twice last season and shouldn't have done, and pipped us to the (South West Division Two East) league championship.

"So we want to even things out."
