OAKMEADIANS coach James Croker labelled their 14-13 defeat at high-riding Wootton Bassett as "just one of those days".

They trailed 14-5 with Will Croker getting their try but Wootton replying with a touch down and three penalties.

Jamie Tryska slotted over a penalty and Jeandre Tait got the Meyrick Parkers' second try in the Southern Counties South tie.

But with fly-half Tryska limping off at half time with a pulled hamstring, Hayden Hokianga had to take over the kicking. And, only being a stand-in kicker, he missed two from in front of the posts as a notable Oaks win slipped away.

James Crocker said: "It was frustrating. It was one that escaped. It was our best performance in creating chances we've produced this season, and a good defensive display because we outscored them two tries to one."

Oakmeadians: Osborne, Parker, Baylis, Notobartolo, Tait, Tryska (Easterbrook ht), Harman, Bratt, Stephenson, Riley, W Croker, Stradwick, Hennings, Flower, Hokianga. Unused subs: Morgan, Garrett.

  • Wimborne beat Dorchester 31-12 with tries from Chris Hicks, Jeff Moxham, Dave Stephens, Dave Huggins and Marcus Atkins and three Matt Wells conversions.

Huggins said: "We needed the win to get our confidence back, and we needed to learn to control the game and we did."
