ON THIS DAY – APRIL 11 2009
HONEST Ryan Garry carried the can for Cherries’ latest defeat and then admitted it was time for Eddie Howe’s men to start “walking the walk”.
Garry took the rap for allowing Paul Furlong to head the winner as Cherries suffered a 1-0 reverse against Barnet at Underhill.
The 25-year-old has been a cornerstone of the Cherries defence in recent weeks and turned in another solid display alongside fellow linchpin Jason Pearce.
However, Garry blotted his copybook when Barnet’s on-loan striker Furlong escaped his attentions and headed home Kenny Gillet’s cross seven minutes into the second half.
Garry told the Daily Echo: “We went a goal down, which was my fault, and couldn’t get a reply. It was very frustrating from the team’s point of view and from a personal point of view.
“I didn’t mark him properly and everything was wrong. Football is a harsh game and you get punished. I got punished and, ultimately, it cost the team and I’m very sorry for that.”
