ON THIS DAY – APRIL 28 2007
BOSS Kevin Bond hailed his players as Cherries finally secured their League One status following a 1-1 draw with Gillingham.
James Hayter’s strike earned the Dorset club a share of the spoils at Dean Court after Andrew Crofts’s opener.
Bond said: “It was an achievement. We were in the cart when I first came here and in even deeper trouble after I had been here for six weeks, so the lads have done very well.
“We always knew it was possible and kept believing but knew it was going to be difficult. Our home form this year has been really good and that’s given us something to cling to.
“We haven’t been consistent enough and the run of two wins followed by two defeats is a sign of that inconsistency.”
Meanwhile, discussing the immediate future, Bond added: “It’s going to be difficult because changes are going to have to be made.
“The club is in a difficult position, there’s no getting away from it. We need to try to do what we can and see what we can bring in.”
Cherries: Stewart, Cooper (Browning, 61), Gowling, Broadhurst, Cummings, Purches, Anderton, Wilson (Pitman, 85), Summerfield, Hayter, Fletcher (Vokes, 85).
Unused subs: Hollands, Pryce (g/k).
