EDDIE Howe insisted he had enjoyed making the switch from Premier League manager to home school teacher in recent weeks – even if he feels he could do with some revision!

The Cherries boss, dad to sons Harry, Rocky and Theodore, has treasured spending time with his family at home amid football’s coronavirus shutdown.

But with eldest sons Harry and Rocky both needing to keep on top of various subjects, Howe has been tasked with taking their own academic lessons.

Asked about having to swap tactics boards for textbooks, Howe told the Daily Echo: “With having to home school two of the kids, certainly that is a new challenge for me and something that has brought many different feelings!

“Trying to find ways to teach a five-year-old and an eight-year-old – on subjects that, really, I need a lot of revision on myself – has been good.

“I’ve really enjoyed that process.

“There are similarities in terms of getting the best out of individuals and trying to find a way to communicate with people, to get them to do the work.

“But the big challenge I have is being their dad and doing that.

“There are probably kids around the world who are home-schooled and do it fine but it’s a new one for me and for them, to have me teaching them maths, English and various subjects.

“It hasn’t always been a smooth process, I’ll be honest! But it’s something I’ve really enjoyed spending time with them - sustained time.

“Then of course you have a one-year-old, being part of that process in terms of actually parenting him, which is something I don’t normally do because I am not here a great deal.”

Journeys up and down the country with football has been something Howe has been used to since he was a child himself, having come through Cherries’ academy.

And while he admits he is missing the game incredibly, the 42-year-old has loved spending time with his sons.

“It’s probably the first time in their lives that I have been around every day for a few weeks and I really try to treasure that time with them,” he added.
