In his latest Daily Echo column, Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Chris Billam-Smith writes about a potential return to the ring, taking up yoga and spicing up his cooking skills…

What day is it? Groundhog day…

All the days are rolling into one. Wake up, make my coffee, whack YouTube on and do my 20-30 minutes of Yoga, have breakfast...

I’m sure everyone can relate to all the days feeling the same.

Yoga is new for me, though, and we’re still in the ‘honeymoon’ phase.

But it’s treating me well and my flexibility and mobility has improved massively.

I’m constantly searching for more variety to what I have been doing, which has been mainly running steady state, most days.

Last Friday evening, @redefine_jamie (Jamie Whisken) took me through a great cardio and core session live on Instagram - my abs only recovered on Tuesday!

Check Jamie’s page out as he’s doing loads of live workouts with other personal trainers and even footballers such as Liverpool and England’s Adam Lallana.

There was guidance issued this week by the British Boxing Board of Control on the measures that need to be put into place for boxing to get back under way.

The shows will be behind closed doors with a maximum of five fights per show.

Everybody involved in the show would have to be tested 48 hours prior to the event and then immediately self-isolate in a hotel until the show.

I’ve been told there’s a strong possibility I’d be on a Sky Sports show in these circumstances.

It all sounds feasible and it excites me that we are moving towards getting back to boxing, providing key workers are getting the tests that they require to help us get through the other side of this pandemic.

So, fingers crossed I’ll have a cure for my itchy knuckles soon!

Bournemouth Echo:

During the boredom of lockdown, I’ve hooked out a few old cookbooks.

I have signed up to a hot sauce subscription to help with my bland cooking skills.

Bauce Brothers provide three bottled varieties every quarter (there are other subscriptions available) which are accompanied with little cards giving the name, bio, picture and ‘spice rating’ of each sauce.

Currently they throw a bonus bottle in as it was their birthday and I’d highly recommend for anyone who thinks they can handle the heat!

In other news, the weekly music quiz night wasn’t very successful this week. Pop was clearly not our genre. However, I won my first game in our new FIFA 20 league, so watch this space.

Bournemouth Echo:

I’m going to steal Cherries legend and fellow columnist Charlie Daniels’s idea to answer your questions!

Feel free to send any me questions and I will do my best to answer them in next week’s column.
