CHERRIES have accepted a £41million bid from Manchester City for defender Nathan Ake, the Daily Echo understands.

It is understood the deal could move quickly in the next few days as the Dutch international looks set to leave following a glittering spell at Vitality Stadium.

Should the deal be completed, Cherries would make a profit of £21million on the talented centre-back, who they signed from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 following a successful loan move.

Ake has been an integral part of Cherries’ spell in the Premier League but Eddie Howe’s side were relegated, despite a 3-1 victory over Everton on Sunday.

The Netherlands star has played 121 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists.

The 25-year-old did not feature in Cherries’ final three league fixtures after sustaining a groin problem while putting in a heroic block during the club’s 4-1 victory over Leicester earlier this month.

That looks set to be the final act of Ake in a Cherries shirt, having captained the side on the night.

He was named on the bench for Sunday’s win at Goodison Park but did not feature for the Dorset club.

Following Cherries relegation from the top flight, a post on Ake’s social media read: “Devastated… Love this club no matter what! Thank you for all the support this year and sorry we couldn’t make it in the end.”

Should Ake join Pep Guardiola’s big guns, he would be vying for competition at centre-back alongside the likes of Aymeric Laporte, Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones and Eric Garcia.

Midfielders Fernandinho and Rodri have also been used at the heart of the defence by former Barcelona boss Guardiola.

Cherries still have the likes of centre-back options Steve Cook, Chris Mepham, Lloyd Kelly and Jack Simpson, with Ake likely to depart.
