CHAMPION breaststroker Naomi Vides led a medal bonanza as Ferndown Otters recorded one of the best sets of regional results in their history at the South West Championships at Millfield.

The 13-year-old national age group double champion won the senior and junior titles in both the 100 and 200m breaststroke in 1:14.84 and 2:42.27.

But she had to settle for silver in the 50m breaststroke (35.09) behind Plymouth Leander's Kenyan national record holder Achieng Ajulu-Bushell.

Ferndown celebrated a one-two in the 200m final as Fran Hughes, 14, took the senior and junior silver medals in 2:45.23.

She also claimed the junior bronze medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke (36.04 and 1:16.80).

The two breaststrokers' efforts contributed to an Otters haul of 10 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals at Millfield.

Coach Tony Watson said he could not remember a better collection of results in the South West Championships.

Zoe Watson joined the gold trail with victory in the senior and junior 200m freestyle (2:08.92).

She also took the junior gold and senior silver in the junior 400m freestyle and reached the 50m freestyle final.

Nicole Scott was another Ferndown champion, winning the open 100m butterfly in 1:04.52.

Craig Freeman, another of Ferndown's national age group medallists, took his turn on the top step of the podium after winning the junior gold and open bronze medals in the men's 200m freestyle (2:00.67).

Chris Campbell had a busy weekend and his rewards included silver medals in the men's 50m and 200m butterfly in 26.47 and 2:14.56.

He also reached the finals of the 100m fly (seventh) and 200m individual medley (eighth).

Bronze medals went to Emily Freeman in the senior 200m backstroke (2:26.67) and Anne-Marie Taylor in the junior 50m butterfly (31.03).

Freeman was also fifth in the 100m backstroke and freestyle.

Other Ferndown finalists included Dominic Macdonald with seventh in the 200m individual medley, Hannah Jenkins with fifth in the 200m freestyle and Cat Close with sixth in the 100m backstroke.

Natalie Moore provided Bournemouth Dolphins' best result with bronze in the junior 200m freestyle (2:13.85).

Dolphins' Emma Bird came fourth in the senior and junior 1500m freestyle (19:27.79) while Danielle Francis was fourth in the women's 800m freestyle (9:24.21).

Other Bournemouth finalists included Nick Marsh with seventh in the men's 50m backstroke final, Danni Shrosbree with seventh in the women's 50m breaststroke (37.90) and Dan Bridges with eighth in the junior 1500m freestyle (18:13.28).
