FLYING forward Arnaut Danjuma revealed how his renowned cobra goal celebration was a “little dedication” to close friend Tresor, who did a lot for him when it was “tough” growing up.
The 24-year-old continued his red-hot form with a brace in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Coventry City and showcased the celebration.
Danjuma has scored 13 times for Cherries this campaign and says his new post-goal ritual is here to stay.
Asked why he made the hand gesture in the shape of a cobra, the Netherlands international told the Daily Echo: “It’s a long story but I will keep it short! It’s for a friend of mine.
“Whenever I was a kid, I would always play five-a-side with some friends of mine.
“It was a particular friend who used to do that celebration whenever he scored.
“It was tough when I was a kid and he did a lot for me when I was young.
“It’s just to show to him that I will remember him always when I score and it’s just a little dedication to him. He watches every game as well. He is one of my best friends.
“He himself, he’s a very skinny guy. When he used to dribble he would always go past defenders like a cobra, so that’s why.
“We always call him a cobra, so that’s where it comes from.”
As well as sending a message to his close pal, Danjuma has also seen the cobra catch on around the area.
He added: “I started doing it this season.
“I came up with it. I think I did it once and it just sticks as well.
“Whenever I ride through the town I see people doing the celebration!
The minute I saw that I was like ‘no I’ll just stick to it, I’ll make it always my celebration’.”
Tresor, who is based in Holland, has watched his close pal Danjuma net six times in as many Championship games for the Dorset club in recent weeks.
Danjuma is set to be part of Jonathan Woodgate’s squad to make the trip to Huddersfield Town tomorrow (5.30pm).
He was taken off late on against the Sky Blues last time out and admitted he would have liked to have added to his tally even more.
“I was still going for the hat-trick,” he admitted.
“I am very pleased with the team performance we put in. We scored very early in the game and that set the tone for how we wanted to start the game as well.
“To win 4-1 at home and go back in the play-offs with a game in hand, I think we are in a position where we want to be right now.
“We are back into the top six now so we should maintain it. Huddersfield, to be honest, with the quality we have that should be a win as well but you never know.
“We shouldn’t underestimate them and make sure we perform to the way we can.”
