HAMWORTHY United boss Phil Simkin admitted he hoped Jack Swann was over his injury problems after the striker netted his team's winner on Saturday.

Swann has missed much of the season through various fitness problems, the most recent of which was a hamstring injury.

But he got 90 minutes under his belt against Ringwood and scored the game's only goal to condemn Jy Taylor's Wessex Premier Division strugglers to their 21st defeat of the campaign.

"Hopefully the Swann is flying now," Hammers boss Simkin told the Daily Echo.

"We've done what we've done in the first half of the season without him and I'd like to think we've got him up and running now.

"He's not 100 per cent but he's starting to look like his old self and I'm delighted for him."

Simkin said his keeper Martin Peters had a quiet afternoon, but he admitted Ringwood made his team battle for the points.

He said: "They defended really well, got men behind the ball and the goalkeeper did exceptionally well for them.

"They kept going and they've got half a chance if they continue to do that."

Ringwood manager Taylor believes his side need to model themselves on Hamworthy if they are to escape from the relegation zone.

He said: "We've got to aim to be like them. They're not pretty and go long to Jack Swann, who is so quick up front, and they use set pieces extremely well and that's how we'll get out of trouble."
