JASON Doyle will ride through the pain barrier of a suspected broken ankle in the Australian Championship fourth round tomorrow.

The outgoing Pirates rider believes he cracked the same bone that he broke in a Good Friday spill at Wimborne Road in the first round at Mildura on December 29.

But the gutsy 22-year-old shrugged off the pain to pile up six points in that meeting, and has gone on to score 11 at Gillman and 10 at Mount Gambier.

Those results have lifted the Somerset new-boy into sixth place overall with 40 points.

He is 20 behind Pirates' champion-elect Chris Holder, but only seven adrift of the joint-third placed trio of Cameron Woodward, Fredrik Lindgren and Joe Screen with two rounds to go.

Luckless Doyle, who lines up at his home track in Newcastle tomorrow, said: "I think I broke my ankle again at Mildura.

"It happened when Robert Ksiezak picked up some drive, went into me and I had to ride the bike into the fence.

"I felt searing pain in the ankle, the same pain as when I broke it originally. I think it has cracked in the same place."

Doyle, who drops down from Elite League Poole Castle Cover to second-tier Somerset this year, added: "The ankle is pretty swollen, but I will just put up with it.

"I can still ride. It is not much trouble when I am riding, just when I am walking around.

"So I will just do the final two title rounds and then pack up and head for England around February 10 to 15.

"I will get the ankle sorted out so it will be alright for Somerset. There is a good physio here that I will go to and I will be ready for the start of the season."

Doyle continued: "I've had some really bad luck in the championship. I blew my good engine at Mount Gambier and I dropped six points from breaking down at Mildura, so I'm not really happy with how it's going.

"However, I have my two best rounds coming up at Newcastle and Sydney, so hopefully I can move up onto the rostrum.

"Hopefully I can make both finals and get on the podium overall."

The meeting at Newcastle starts at 7.30am British time tomorrow. The final round at Sydney on Friday also begins at 7.30am British time.
