WITH a place in the M A Hart Poole Bay Cup final already under their belts, Southbourne have a second Hurn Bridge cup final to look forward to after Gareth Barnes struck twice to clinch a 2-1 M A Hart Pickford Cup semi-final victory over Verwood Town Reserves.
It was not until the last 20 minutes of the game that Southbourne were able to subdue the energetic Verwood side with a couple of goals from their vastly-experienced striker before Matt Newbery reduced the deficit in stoppage time.
DOUBLE JUNIOR JOY
BOTH Bournemouth representatives in the Hampshire Junior A Cup made further progress by coming through their fourth round ties without conceding a goal.
Peter Brickhll (2), David Bratt, and Gareth Brickhill gave Twynham Rangers a convincing 4-0 triumph over Oakley Athletic Reserves, while Malt 'n' Hops United put paid to AFC Ventnor 2-0 with goals from Ross Neale and Ben Kemp.
Bisterne United Reserves overcame Bournemouth UST 3-0 in the all-Bournemouth Hampshire Junior B Cup fourth round tie with goals from Andy Hurll (2) and Ashley Gritt.
FIVE-STAR SUTTONERS
HAVING knocked holders Suttoners Civil out of both major cup competitions earlier in the season, Old Oakmeadians were looking to complete a remarkable hat-trick when they entertained the reigning Division One champions in the league.
Unbeaten Suttoners hadn't read the script though and they emerged 5-0 winners through Jason Dark (2), John Bastable, Darren Spires and Anthony Griffin.
Sway continue to head the table on goal difference from Suttoners after tanning tailenders Redhill Rangers 5-1 with goals from Wayne Nagy (2), Dan Webb, Alex Davis, and Elliot Boylan. Pete Valinski scored Redhill's consolation goal.
Seb Chadwick netted for Bournemouth Electric, but Pennington St Marks upended them 4-1 with goals from Pete Hurford (2), Mike Saunders, and Andy Ketley, while Trinidad and Hamworthy Recreation cancelled each other out in a 2-2 draw. Martin Huntley and Dan Ravelin were the Trinidad marksmen with Ashley Boyt and John Peat replying for the Hammers.
HASKELL IS THE HERO
MICHAEL Haskell was the five-goal star when Division Two leaders Ferndown Town gave Mploy a 6-2 drubbing with the other goal coming from Gary Pidgley.
Mike La Ronde struck for second-placed Parley Sports, but Mudeford Mens Club toppled them 2-1 with goals from Lee Moss and Dave Saunders.
Suttoners Civil Reserves were also 2-1 winners when David Blake and Roger Gosby put paid to Urban Bournemouth.
DOWNS IS SPOT-ON
PAUL Hedges and Rodulpho Ress struck for second-placed Westover Bournemouth A in Division Three but St Mary's had the upper hand 4-2 thanks to a couple of Mark Downs penalties and two goals from James Aldham.
St Andrews now occupy the runners-up berth after hammering Bisterne United 8-1 courtesy of Tom Flynn's hat-trick and further goals from Kevin Grigg (2), Luke Brown, Jamie Dawson, and Adrian Pavey.
New Milton Linnets, meanwhile, ended their run of six successive defeats when Ross Grierson, Dave Plunkett, and Brian Sheppard gave them the edge 3-2 against Clearwater.
