WIMBORNE slipped to a 19-8 defeat at Wootton Bassett but only after pushing their high-riding hosts all the way.
The Leigh Parkers, who scored through Dave Huggins (try) and Paul Roberts (penalty), were only 12-8 adrift with five minutes to go.
But then Wootton scored a late try to make the game safe against their Dorset visitors.
Wimborne vice-captain Marcus Atkins said: "Wootton are a very good side and much better than when they came to us earlier in the season.
"It was 12-8 until late on but then they scored under the posts."
Wimborne lost the services of back row forward Chris Hicks with a neck injury two minutes from time.
Defeat probably ended their outside chance of a Southern Counties South play-off place.
