SCOTT Parker insisted Arnaut Danjuma was "trying his hardest to get fit" when quizzed on the Dutchman's attitude in recent weeks.

Amidst speculation over his future all summer, Danjuma has not played for Cherries since the play-off semi-final defeat by Brentford in May.

A foot injury forced the 24-year-old out of the entirety of pre-season, and he now looks set to have played his final game for the club.

Having rejected an offer from Villarreal for Danjuma earlier this summer, Cherries have today accepted a bid of around £21million from the La Liga outfit. The winger will now head to Spain to complete a medical.

Asked on Monday what Danjuma's mindset and attitude had been like in training given the speculation surrounding his future, boss Parker told the Daily Echo: "I think Arnie’s situation is his situation and I think we all probably can understand what his situation is.

"There’s been an offer for Arnie which has not been acceptable. At the same time, Arnie has now come back into training.

"He’s now training fully, I think this is probably his third or fourth session training fully in the team.

"He’s missed the whole of pre-season. Trained the first two days I got here and then not seen him for the other six weeks because of an injury.

"So he just needs some work now. His application in training, in terms of him getting fit, he’s trying his hardest to get fit.

"That’s where it is at this present moment in time. If that changes, we’ll see.

"But at this present moment in time that’s where he is.

"Get fit, get himself back in this team and doing what you know he can do and see what happens at the end of the transfer window."

Discussing Danjuma's absence from pre-season earlier this month, Parker said: "The reason he wasn’t around was because he had a slight problem with his foot.

"At this present moment in time, Arnie is our player. I want to do the best by Arnie, get him fit, get him up to speed and while he’s here and while he’s in our building, we will be using him."
