FIRING frontman Dominic Solanke showed off his new bow and arrow goal celebration at Birmingham City – and is looking to become an improved sharpshooter this season.

The 23-year-old opened his league account for the campaign after slotting in the opener against the Blues at St Andrew’s on Wednesday.

Solanke showed his razor-sharp shooting accuracy when finding the bottom corner from an acute angle, paving the way for a 2-0 success on the road against Lee Bowyer’s side.

And the former Liverpool frontman revealed he was looking to better his tally of 15 league goals from the previous campaign to help Scott Parker’s men seal promotion.

He told the Daily Echo: “I had a decent goalscoring season last season and I want to better that this season. Hopefully I can keep getting a lot of goals.

“I think being a striker, that’s the thing you love most, scoring goals.

“Every game when I don’t score I am a bit disappointed win or lose but the main thing is promotion this season, so hopefully we can do that.

“Obviously we have had a good start to the season and I am just happy to get my first goal in the league and hopefully the first of many.”

Quizzed on whether there was any meaning behind a change of celebration after finding the net, Solanke said: “To be fair, we were doing our media day, doing the little GIFs and I switched it up – so I think I’m going to go with that one for a little bit.

“In the moment I just wanted to switch it up.

“Last season I had the butterfly, so I thought I’d switch it up to the bow and arrow this season.”

A total of 809 Cherries fans were recorded for the midweek trip to Birmingham, with Solanke keen to praise the supporters for giving Parker’s troops a lift.

“They were amazing. I can’t lie, the last time I heard fans like that was a long time ago. With COVID we haven’t had them but to have their support on Wednesday was amazing.

“They obviously helped us.”
