IF rival teams were still unsure of Bashley's promotion credentials prior to the weekend, Saturday's brilliant victory over title contenders Chippenham Town will have left them in no doubt as to the quality of Steve Riley's side.

Bash, unchanged from the team that won at Banbury United last week, made it three wins and three clean sheets from their games in 2008 with a second successive 2-0 success.

The New Forest club, in their first season back among the Southern League's elite, have taken the division by storm and, should they win their games in hand, they will be sitting pretty in the play-off places.

The team's fine form on home soil continued at the weekend as they overcame a bright start from visitors Chippenham to record their seventh league win at Bashley Road in 11 outings, with the other four matches being drawn.

Boss Riley was understandably delighted with his side's efforts.

He said: "Over the 90 minutes it was a really complete performance.

"We were under a bit of pressure in the first 15 or 20 minutes. But we dealt with it and played our way into the game - then it was a fantastic performance from everybody."

In-form forward Ryan Moss set the hosts on their way with a 25th-minute opener after good work from Eastleigh loan midfielder Danny Smith.

And the result was put beyond doubt when Craig Davis extended the lead in the 69th minute.

"We played better in the second half and put them under a lot of pressure with some great play and movement," explained Riley.

"Jeremy Tarr came on at half-time because Dave Town had a bit of a calf strain and him and Ryan Moss were superb.

"We created lots of chances and their keeper kept the score down. Everyone played their part and we were outstanding."

Despite Bashley's fine form so far this term, particularly at home, Riley refused to get carried away about the prospect of a second promotion in a row.

He added: "Only time will tell. That was our 20th game so we're not even half-way through yet and there's still a lot of football to be played.

"The team at the minute has a great togetherness and fantastic spirit. The players are all enjoying their football.

"It was just a great performance, everyone played their part."
