LEIGH Phillips feels Bournemouth Poppies are in with a chance of Wessex Premier Division title glory after securing a narrow win over Moneyfields.

In a repeat of Tuesday night's Senior Cup tie, which Moneyfields won in extra-time, Scott Sanderson's 50th-minute header was all that separated the teams after a tight match at Victoria Park.

The victory saw Poppies complete a league double over Moneyfields to extend their unbeaten Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division run to 14 games.

This sensational form has lifted James Wood's side to fifth position and they have a number of games in hand on the top three clubs.

Asked about the team's championship hopes, Poppies player-assistant boss Phillips said: "We feel we're right in the mix.

"It was a bit of a dour match, especially in the first half. But fortunately we started the second half brightly.

"Tom Jeffes put a chance wide in the 46th minute and we scored in the 50th. It was a good cross from Mark Smith and a good header from Scott.

"It was more of a game then, it opened up a bit. They might have had a goal but we could've had two or three more."

Poppies will be keen to pick up as many points as possible this month because February sees them up against close rivals AFC Totton, VT FC and Poole Town.
