WIMBORNE’S Southern Premier South clash with Weston-super-Mare was abandoned after 37 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch at New Cuthbury, writes Graham Dunn.
By then the visitors, playing with the wind and rain in their faces, had swept into a 3-0 lead and were left deeply frustrated by the outcome.
Weston had taken the lead on 16 minutes when a corner on the left was half-cleared by the head of Callum Chugg, only for Jason Pope to return the ball with interest past young keeper Billy Terrell.
Wimborne's best chance came on 27 minutes when good combination play sent Charlie Gunson racing between the two central defenders.
He went down on the edge of the box as he was about to pull the trigger but the referee waved away appeals.
In the next minute, Wimborne were punished when a free-kick was given at the other end.
With everyone expecting a high cross into the box, it was cleverly laid back for Lloyd Humphries who ran 20 yards to side-foot the ball past Terrell from 25 yards.
Things became even worse for Magpies three minutes later. This time a low cross reached Nick McCootie and he swept the ball beyond Terrell.
With players finding it hard to keep their footing, referee Parsons tried passing the ball to his assistants on the surface.
After then consulting them, he decided that he had seen enough and abandoned the game.
