PETER Ward is double-booked for the national play-offs of the English Indoor BA Championships at Northampton next month after two devastating displays in the area finals.
In the mixed fours the Bournemouth skip combined with Roy Leake, Mary Jones and Julie Saunders for a 27-3 triumph after leading the Dolphin rink of Sally Williams, Penny Cresswell, Chris Weekes and Ben Paulley 18-0 on seven ends at Portsmouth.
The following night Ward returned to his old Atherley stamping ground to join forces with his father, Peter senior, to slam Tom and David Bishop of Atherley 27-5 in the father and son showdown.
Ward also progressed 21-12 in the singles against his former East Dorset teammate Chris Martin but Ward's Bournemouth colleagues Ray and Chris Daniels are out of the pairs after conceding three shots on the last two ends in a 19-18 defeat by Mark Hammond and Paul May of Banister Park.
John Riddington and Roger Blackie of Dolphin have reached the over-60 pairs' area final against Cliff Higgins and Barry Bendall (Banister Park) while Paulley plays England junior international Mark Hammond (Banister Park) in the under-25 showdown.
STIRRING RECOVERY
SKIP Penny Cresswell and Sally Williams staged a stirring recovery to reach the Zone 14b final of the English Women's Indoor BA pairs championship.
Playing on their home carpet the Dolphin duo trailed 15-10 on 16 ends but then won the last five ends to upset Julie Flatters and Isabelle Addison (Dorchester) 19-15.
Julie Saunders, Pamela Harrison and Joan Halliwell (Bournemouth) landed a decisive five on the 14th to deflate Val Farrant (East Dorset) 23-18 in the triples but Saunders' hopes of gaining a revenge win against Annette Hallett in the Champion of Champions perished in a 21-14 home defeat by the Dorchester bowler.
Hallett had beaten her 21-18 in the singles at Kings Park before Christmas.
