DETERMINED full-back Leif Davis insisted it was “all about fight” for a team to get promoted from the Championship, having seen it first-hand at Leeds United.
The 22-year-old, on loan at Vitality Stadium from Elland Road this season, has started Cherries’ past three games in all competitions in the absence of Jordan Zemura.
Davis featured a handful of times when Marcelo Bielsa’s side were promoted as champions of the second tier during the 2019-20 season.
Cherries slipped out of the automatic promotion spots after Blackburn’s 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Monday.
But asked after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Hull what a team needed to do to get promoted from the Championship, Davis told the Daily Echo: “It’s a difficult league. It’s all about fight, to be fair.
“If you are coming into the games, every Championship game is hard.
“It doesn’t matter about the table, you are coming into the game like every team is going to be a difficult opponent.
“You need to fight to get out the league. You don’t come into the game and just ease through games. You’ve got to fight.”
Newcastle-born Davis has been limited to just six Championship starts this campaign, as well as 538 league minutes in total.
Quizzed on how he would assess his season so far, the defender replied: “At the start I came in and I played right-back, right wing.
“My first game I started right wing, which was a different one for me – I’ve never played there.
“Getting back to playing left-back, I was just happy to keep getting games in.
“That’s the reason I was coming down here – to try to get more game time.
“Now it’s coming to me, I am just going to try to keep my head down and keep working every day.
“To be fair, after the Luton game I thought I’d done really well and the manager said I’d done well.
“I feel great, to be fair. I feel really fit. On Saturday I felt good as well, making runs forward and trying to create chances for the team.
“I am just happy to be playing again.”
Davis will be looking to keep his place when Scott Parker’s side head to Barnsley in the Championship on Saturday.
They will be looking to halt a run of two straight defeats.
