POOLE TOWN visit title contenders Hayes & Yeading this afternoon (kick-off 3pm), with the Dolphins aiming to keep their hopes of a playoff spot alive.
As often is the case at this point of the season, there will be a battle inside the war, with the division's two top goalscorers going head-to-head.
Hitman Tony Lee is of course focused on his side’s targets, but his personal goals will certainly help his team achieve their overall ambitions.
The Southampton-born striker had grabbed 25 goals in 23 Southern League games prior to suffering a broken collarbone.
Miles clear at the top of the goalscoring charts when he was initially injured, after missing eight league games, Hayes striker Moses Emmanuel has piped him by a goal – with 26 strikes to Lee’s 25.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, the 25-year-old stated: “On a personal level I’m buzzing to still be at the top even if he’s caught me up.
“I’ve got to give him credit for catching me, as he’s still got to do his job.
“But I think if I hadn’t have missed two months of the season with the form I was in, I’d be sat with 35-ish goals, which people may say ‘nah, no chance’.
“When you’re full of confidence, you’ve got to back yourself.
“It’s now mid-February and we’re sat on 25 goals and 26 goals. It’s all to play for, so I think both of us will be checking after most games to see where we are but it’s a challenge that I know we’re both be up for.”
Despite aiming for the golden boot, Lee would rather go without a goal until the end of the season if it meant Poole reached the playoffs.
Lee also understands victory at Hayes will be some undertaking, with both sides desperate for the points on offer.
“They’re in a promotion hunt and we need to get in the play offs so we both want three points every game.
“I genuinely do think that still is the important thing, whether the goals are flowing or not.”
