ANYTHING can happen in the Championship.

That’s the maxim you often hear about England’s second tier, with sides seemingly destined for the drop at the beginning of the campaign finding themselves in promotion battles come May.

In other cases it is sides with lofty ambitions crashing and burning, ending up some way off the top six way before the end of the season.

It is cliché that the Championship is one of the most unpredictable divisions in football.

For those reasons, Cherries boss Scott Parker is calling upon his side to maintain their form as they approach the final push.

The Cherries boss was speaking after Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson said people were thinking of the Dorset club as a Premier League side and that the club's rise through the divisions was "a great story".

Parker started: “It’s nowhere near done. While it may look like that from the outside, then like I said, I'm very consistent.

“That's just narratives, what will be set. Ultimately we need to win games and we need to carry on being consistent in that.

“We've done very well in that the squad and the team have done extremely well and over a consistent period of time, we've done that to put ourselves in this position.”

The end to a Championship season is hectic at the best of times, but with a packed schedule, Parker is fully aware that a brief lapse in concentration could have big ramifications.

Rather than looking ahead to potential plans regarding the Premier League next season, Parker and his side are focused on getting the job done, starting with West Brom.

The Baggies themselves are one of those aforementioned pre-season favourites that have failed to live up to expectations, with the West Midlands outfit nosediving from their October high of first, all the way down to 12th and midtable obscurity.

“But with nine games coming up in five weeks, and at any moment in this league, anyone can beat anyone,” Parker reminded.

“Things can change very quickly and we need to be fully aware of that and we are.

“We need to take each game as it comes, as cliche as that sounds, and you'd expect to say, I'm sure you guys are bored of hearing me say it, but that's the truth.

“West Brom now, we go there, give our best performance, try and get a result when we move on to Sheffield from there.”
