HAMWORTHY Recreation sealed the Jewson Dorset Premier League title at the weekend with a thumping 6-2 win over table-proppers Corfe Castle.
Rec entered the game knowing that victory would seal the championship, with Jack Satterley scoring twice in the first-half to send Kirk Grice’s side on their way.
Joe Smith restarted scoring two minutes after the break, and then another two minutes passed before Satterley completed his hat-trick.
David Legg’s penalty around the hour-mark made it five, before Satterley grabbed a sixth with 10 to go. With the title secured and the result in no doubt, Hamworthy allowed their beleaguered guests back into the game, with Castle clawing two goals back prior to the final whistle.
Merley Cobham strengthened their grip on second place with a comfortable 4-1 win away at Balti Sports.
The opening goal came from the penalty spot after Elliot Rossiter was felled in the box. Veteran Matt Groves slotted away the spot-kick, with the opener encouraging the away side to add to their tally.
Whilst a second goal would not arrive in the first half, it took Cobham just two minutes of action in the second to double their advantage.
Rossiter picked up an assist as his cross allowed Josh Buck to tap home, before Merley made it three just 10 minutes into the second-half.
Dan Edwards scored the pick of the bunch with his drive from outside box, but Ricky Lane quickly cancelled out Edwards’ strike as Balti rounded off a counter attack on the hour-mark.
The goals continued to come at frenetic pace, with the fifth and final strike of the game coming in 62nd minute.
Lee Wilkins provided the ball Buck needed to convert his second of the game, quelling any potential momentum for the hosts.
Elsewhere in the division, Poole Borough secured their Premier League status for next season with a 3-0 win away at Shaftesbury reserves. Conor Jevon struck twice, whilst Daniele Mirto got the other for the Hornets.
