DEFENDER Nat Phillips described as “chaos” the celebrations in Cherries’ dressing room after they sealed promotion and added: “There’s not many things in life that can create that for you.”
The Dorset club secured second spot in the Championship table, as well as a place in next year’s Premier League, after a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
Signed on loan from Liverpool until the remainder of the campaign, Phillips labelled as “immense” the amount of ability and character in Cherries’ squad.
Asked to describe the scenes in the dressing room post-match, the Bolton-born centre-half said: “Chaos!
“Everyone was over the moon, ecstatic. Everywhere you looked people were buzzing and it was the same out on the pitch.
“I think it will be the same for a few days around the area because that’s what it means to the area, the club and the players.
“We have worked so hard. I have only been here since February but I have seen the hard work and planning that’s gone into this.
“The boys who have been here before I was here have been working extremely hard and now we get our reward from it.
“This will certainly be an evening I will look back on for the rest of my life with pride and with a smile on my face.”
He added: “It’s been nice to come in and have the goal to work towards. We all wanted it so much – you can see from the scenes it means a lot to everybody.
“There is immense amounts of ability in that team and in that dressing room. None of us players ever doubted that.
“Certainly, the character and the strength over, not just Tuesday, but in previous fixtures where we have managed to come back.
“The Swansea game for example, the Fulham game those sorts of games show we have a great strength of character in this squad.”
Phillips has played 17 times for Cherries since his mid-season arrival, striking up an impressive centre-back partnership alongside skipper Lloyd Kelly.
And the 25-year-old revealed how Cherries’ fans helped the Dorset club over the line.
He added: “From the moment we walked out (on Tuesday) you could sense the atmosphere had gone up levels.
“The fans did a brilliant job of creating that buzz, atmosphere and intensity that we needed really to bring into the game.
“Hats off to them, they played a huge part of acquiring the result we have done.
“I was trying to hold back my smile when I was walking out because I could hear the buzz and feel the buzz. I thought ‘this is football’ these are the moments you live for as players.
“That real buzz of energy. There’s not many things in life that can create that for you.”
